Simple Zipper Pouch - Pattern & Tutorial

Supplies

- 2 pieces of fabric, 20 x 30 cm (1 for the exterior and 1 for the lining)
- 1 piece of iron-on interfacing, 20 x 30 cm
- 1 piece of zipper, 20 cm long
- Approx. 50 cm of matching bias tape
- A sewing machine
- A tape measure
- Matching thread

Pattern 

Step 1: Glue the interfacing to the outer fabric of the pouch.

Place the shiny side of the interfacing on the underside of the fabric and set the iron to "wool" (symbolized by ••). Iron for approximately 8 seconds without steam.

Step 2: Cut the pieces according to the pattern

Place or draw the pattern on the outer fabric/viseline combination and cut it out.
Do the same with the piece of fabric intended for the lining, setting it aside for now.

Step 3: Attaching the bias tape

Place the right side of the bias tape on the right side of the fabric, along the two curved edges, edge to edge, unfolding the fold of the bias tape. Secure with pins.

Then sew along the fold mark.

Step 4: Sew the lining 

Sew the lining, wrong sides together, to the outer fabric, placing the bias tape edge to edge on the lining.

This is what you get, front and back. 

 Step 5: Installing the zipper 

 Mark the center of each rounded edge and the center of each half of the zipper with a pin or a pencil dot.

Then place the right side of the zipper against the bias tape that will be inside the finished case.

Sew them edge to edge, without sewing the lining or the outer fabric. You get this.

And if you turn the whole thing over, it looks like this.

Step 6: Sewing the Sides

Still with your pencil case turned inside out, sew the sides. Once your seams are complete, trim any excess bias tape and zipper if necessary.

Turn your pouch inside out and your work is complete!
