Last year I made kettle handle holder for my knitting buddies, and these potholders might actually be the thing I make that is most requested by family and friends. I used to think that people wanted it just for the cute factor. They would say they burned their hands on their kettles, but I didn’t quite believe them. That was before I got my new stove.
Furoshiki are square wrapping cloths that were traditionally used in Japan to carry things. There are hundreds of ways to wrap and tie a furoshiki and they come in all sizes and patterns. Although they aren’t used as prolifically as they used to be (curse the invention of the plastic bag!), they can still be found and are coming back into fashion as more focus is being placed on the environment.
I find that I need more that one portable sewing kit for various projects that I keep on hand. For the car, the couch or work. Here is an easy to sew wallet to keep the various supplies you will want at your finger tips.

I decided to make my first wallet out of kraft-tex. It went pretty well, and I learned some things along the way! kraft-tex is a paper-fabric hybrid that comes in a wide variety of colors and is a great leather substitute. You can cut it like paper and sew with it like fabric!
