Make an iPad Case - DIY Tutorial. DIY Tablet Cover\ Case - Super Easy.
YOU'LL NEED:
Cardboard
Sturdy cardboard (like the back of a paper pad, not ribbed, as that wrinkles easily). For my first case, I simply used the iPad box itself, which is almost perfectly sized.
1. 24.5 cm x 19 cm
2. 24.5 cm x 1.5 cm
3. 24.5 cm x 19 cm
4. 24.5 cm x 1.5 cm
5. 24.5 cm x 9 cm
Fabric
1. 25.5 cm x 20 cm
2. 25.5 cm x 36 cm
3. 25.5 cm x 55 cm
Elastic
2.5 cm wide. Nice colors are nice, but not easy to find (probably online)
1. 4 pieces of 10 cm each
2. 1 piece of 27 cm each
!! I only added a seam allowance of 0.5 cm for everything because my machine has a setting that stitches and zigzags simultaneously at 0.5 cm.
Place the 4 pieces of elastic on the corners of the right side of fabric 1. Stitch them briefly against the edge of the fabric and trim the excess.
Sew fabric 2 to fabric 1 on the right side, right sides together (make sure the fabric motif isn't upside down; I speak from experience...). Unfold and press the seam flat.
Now place fabric 3 on top of fabrics 1 and 2, right sides together (keeping an eye on the pattern!), and measure 35 cm from the right. Mark the fabric and place the long elastic between the fabrics, centering it on the mark. Pin everything in place. Sew the two long sides and the right side together.
You should now have about 4 cm of excess fabric. Neatly fold it under and sew with an invisible stitch. Or do as lazy me does: sew close to the edge (and don't forget your label!).
Voilà: iPad in and done! And now everyone be proud of your work! (And don't tell anyone that this was actually very easy.)
