Jeans Bag Pattern - Easy to Sew!

Jeans Bag Pattern - Easy to Sew!

Every seamstress has a stash of old jeans that they hate to throw away but can't wear anymore. It's precisely these unwanted garments that can be turned into a convenient, fashionable bag. How? We'll explain in detail.

This denim bag is small because it relies on a pocket. The bag pattern is built around this pocket. The larger the pocket on the jeans, the larger the bag can be.

Tip: If you want to make a larger bag, cut the pocket out of the jeans and stitch it later onto the cut-out bag pattern piece.

Draw the bag pattern on paper as shown in Figure 1.

How to cut a bag out of jeans

Cut out the bag as follows:

Outer bag piece — 1 piece
Back bag piece — 1 piece (using the main pattern).
Bottom bag piece — 1 piece.

Additionally, cut out 2 strips for the bag handles, each 4 cm wide and 50 cm long, and 2 pieces for the top of the bag, each 20 cm long and 4 cm wide.

Cut out all the pieces from the lining fabric except for the bag handles. Additionally, cut out the bottom without seam allowances from a thick thermal fabric (for reinforcement). Seam allowances on all sides are 1 cm.

How to sew a denim bag

Reinforce the main fabric bottom with a thermal fabric. Baste the bottom along the long and short sides to the side pieces. Notch the corners. Stitch the bottom to the denim bag pieces.

Baste and stitch the sides.

Sew the bag pieces from the lining fabric in the same manner. Place the lining inside the bag, wrong side out, baste the top edges, and trim the seam allowances along the top of the bag.

Turn the top pieces along the long sides, wrap them around the top of the bag (up to the handles!), and stitch along the edge.

Baste the bag handle pieces and stitch along the short sides. Turn them along the edges, wrap them around the top edges of the bag, and stitch along the edge of the handles.

The upper parts of the bag handles can be additionally covered with leather in a similar manner.
