1. Carefully cut your outside top and sole pieces. Be very careful that you cut exact. You can even trace the pattern using a fabric pen and then cut for a more precise pattern piece.

2. Cut inside fabric in large pieces so that the cut pattern pieces fit comfortable inside. Unless you prefer to cut every piece before sewing, do it this way, it’s super easy. Lay right sides together and pin carefully before sewing. Be mindful that pin heads are not in your way.

3. Sew along the lines indicated as shown. Do not forget to lock stitch the beginning and end of your stitching line. Ease around corners and curves and keep a ¼” distance from the edge. When you finish sewing, you can then trim away access of the inside fabric.
Clip corners and curves.

4. Turn out top of shoe and press. I use a tool to turn out my straps but you can use just about anything stick like. I then use my scissor edge to help press out all seams neatly. You will then open up the back edge of the shoe and put right sides together.

Sew from one end to the other, then iron the seams flat and fold the outside over. Your seam will be hidden and finished. You should not see your unfinished edges of the heel on the inside or outside of the shoe.

5. While looking the back seam, from the outside, otherwise known as the heel. Line up the midpoint of the heel of the outside sole with the seam line of the outside top of the shoe. Pin in place. Make sure right sides are together.

Lay the sole, wrong side down on your machine and start stitching at the center of the heel. You should be looking at the inside fabric as you stitch as shown in the next pictures.

6. You can pin your way around or you can just ease your way as you so. Sewing from the center of the heel as shown, all the way around. Be sure to ease around the curves and sew ¼” in. If this part is done correctly, you should have no pleating because of access fabric.

7. Carefully pin down the top piece of your show so that it is out of the way of the outside seam. This will keep you from sewing up part of the shoe in the seam or from catching part of the top of the shoe in the next stitches.

8. Now lay your sew with the pin down parts down and the wrong side of the outside sole facing up.

You are going to sew the coordinating fabric around the edge of the soul following the stitches you have already made. Please leave 1¾” open in the toe of the shoe. Once you’ve sew, trim away the excess inside fabric as shown below.

9. Turn the shoe out through the opening hole in the toe end of the shoe. You’ll want to see only the inside of the sew. Sew closely to the stitching line on the sole of the shoe to close up the hole and then trim away the excess as closely as possible. Or you can fold them in and whip stitch.

10. Turn your show out as shown. You should not be able to see any unfinished seams. You can use the same technique for attaching the soles for all my shoe patterns. You can even experiment with whip stitching the toe closed to make a reversible shoe.

11. You have several options for your hole that you’ll want to place at the end of your straps. I used grommets, you can use a button hole or you can stitch an eyelet and punch out the center hole. You could even sew ribbons in the ends of your straps when sewing. There are many ways to create a closure for your shoes, be creative and try new things.

Finally run your 12” ribbon through your holes and tie. You’ll need to trim the ends and seal them. I use two methods to seal grosgrain; one is fray check that can be purchased at your craft or fabric store and the other is taking a lighter and brushing a flame next to the ribbon to gentle heat and seal the ends. Be careful not to burn the ribbon.
