1. Carefully cut your outside top and sole pieces. Be very careful that you cut exact. You can even trace the pattern using a fabric pen and then cut for a more precise pattern piece. Be sure to cut your “triangle” notches in reverse. They should point away from the pattern instead of cutting into the fabric.
2. Cut inside fabric in exactly as the outside pieces so that the cut pattern pieces fit comfortable inside. I recommend laying out the pieces for each shoe as you cut them and separate them as you go so that you don’t accidentally use the wrong piece.
HINT: When making your first few pairs of shoes, you may want to use inside and outside fabrics that have a wrong and right side. This will help you keep your pieces organized for each shoe. It’s easy to get them mixed up with this pattern. Be very mindful of your pattern when laying your shoes out.
TIP: Make sure that you put the sole of your so that the instep is on the same side as your upper strap piece. If not, they’ll button on the inside ankle.
3. When sewing your pieces you can use the shadows on your pattern as guides for placement.
There are three small pieces for the upper shoe and it can get confusing. Be sure to use strong locking stitches at the beginning and end of your stitch row.
4. Sew along the lines indicated as shown. Once again, do not forget to lock stitch the beginning and end of your stitching line. Ease around corners and curves and keep a ¼” distance from the edge. When you finish sewing, you can then trim away access of the inside fabric. Clip corners and curves.
5. Line up your notches as shown. Now, because you only have ¼” you’ll want to make your notches out in reverse instead of in like some people like to do.
You can top stitch your outside upper for a “finished” look
6. When you get both the outside and inside uppers piece, lay them out as shown with right sides together and sew along starting at the top corner.
7. Hopefully, you can see the notices I’ve made in the upper. It’s important to clip corners carefully and this will create a “tongue” for your shoe. It doesn’t have a function for this shoe but will give it character. You can skip these notches if you want a smooth round top.
8. Turn out your upper and press your corners, you’ll quickly notice if you forgot to clip a corner .
9. Place right sides of heal together and sew down the entire length of the heel. Then clip the center seam as shown below.
10. Shown to the left is the notch I clipped in the heel of my show.
11. Turn out your upper as shown. Line up the outside heel of your shoe at the bottom with the “midpoint” heel of your sole. Right sides together. Pin in places. Sewing from the inside of your shoe you. Sew carefully around the sole and ease around your curves.
12. Pin down all your of your upper to the sole so that all the pieces is out of the way of the seam for applying the inside sole. For this step, you can use a precut piece or simple use a large fabric pieces as shown. Lay the sole piece to be applied right side.
Sew Carefully around over the first set of stitches.
Leave an opening in the two, be sure to lock your stitches on both ends.
Turn out and sew up the opening on top of the stitches already made. Trim away the excess fabric and turn right side out.
Add your button hole and button or Velcro where needed and you are done!
Now do the same for the other shoe.
