Zipper Pencil Pouch Sewing Tutorial. Simple Pencil Case Sewing Pattern. DIY cute and adorable pencil cases.
To make a pencil case, you will need:
- Felt fabric
- Zipper
- Sewing needle, colored thread, pins
- Pencil case template (see here for reference)
- Cord, wooden beads
- Scissors
How to make a pencil case:
Step one(1):
- Cut green fabric into 1 large piece for the bottom of the bag, 2 small long pieces for the lining of the bag lid.
- Cut white polka dot fabric into 2 pieces for the bag lid. Cut the zipper into a piece the same length as the bag lid fabric.
Step two(2):
- Cut two rectangular pieces of fabric, then fold them in half and fold the two edges inwards. After folding, iron them flat to create creases.
- Place the zipper pull inside the crease of the fabric and sew the folded fabric to the zipper pull. Similarly, sew the fabric cover for the other zipper pull.
Step three(3):
- Place the zipper between the two polka dot blue and white fabric pieces so that the fabric edge is 0.5cm from the zipper, pin it in place.
- Sew a straight line to secure the two fabric pieces to the zipper, the seam is 0.2cm from the fabric edge.
Step four(4):
- Sew the two flap and lining fabric pieces similarly to the other side of the zipper edge.
Step five (5):
- Use a pen to mark the center position of the bottom of the bag for the fabric edges, fold the bag flap in half to mark the center position.
- Place the bag flap on the bottom of the bag, so that the marked position coincides, and use clips to hold it in place.
- Then, sew the edge of the fabric around with a buttonhole stitch.
Step six(6):
- Finally, thread the string through the zipper and the wooden button, glue it in place, and you'll have a pretty zipper.
