Procedure:
1. Take the light-colored rectangle measuring 23.5 cm by 23 cm. Fold it lengthwise, with the right sides facing each other. Stitch, then press the seam open (centered), as shown in photo 1. Turn right side out.

2. Take the 18 cm x 12 cm dark-colored fabric piece. Follow the same steps as before. Before turning it right-side out, trim the corners on each side. Stitch one end, turn it right-side out, and press.
Fold the medium-sized rectangle (12 cm x 9 cm) with right sides together, resulting in a 6 cm x 9 cm rectangle. Stitch, then position the seam in the center, just as you did with the previous rectangles.
Trim one corner. Stitch, turn right-side out, and press. Slide this pointed end over the unstitched end; the seam should be on the opposite side. Secure with a zigzag stitch. (photo 2)
3. Baste the first light-colored strip onto the printed fabric. Gather it together with the strip that features two differently colored pointed ends. Pin in place. (see photo 3)

4. Place the zipper against the printed fabric, right sides together. (photo 3) Stitch. Turn the piece over and position the zipper on the other side, again with right sides together. Stitch and press.
5. Position the lining and baste it against both sides, underneath the zipper. Attach it using an appliqué stitch.
6. Stitch the sides of the pouch using a two-step process (a French seam): first, stitch on the right side, then turn the pouch inside out and stitch again on the wrong side.
7. Using the 4 cm x 18 cm dark-colored rectangle, create a cord/strap by folding the long edges toward the center, then folding the piece in half again. Stitch, and attach it to the back of the pouch on one side.
If you know an upholsterer, ask them for some upholstery fabric samples. These fabrics are of excellent quality and will give your pouch a beautiful look.
