Material :
- Cotton fabric or oil cloth (2 different ones for the outer fabric and the lining)
- Fusible interfacing
- Zipper (~ 20 cm)
Pattern pieces (DOWNLOAD PDF PATTERN HERE) :
piece 1 - cut 1x from outer fabric (in the fold)
cut 1x from lining (in the fold)
Pattern (dimensions of the pouch: 16 cm large, 13 cm high, 4 cm deep)
Seam allowances are NOT included.
Sewing instructions :
Cut the fabric, do not forget the seam allowances.
It is easier to sew, if the zipper is 4-5 cm longer than needed.
Iron the fusible interfacing on the left side of the outer fabric.
Place the zipper on the upper edge of the outer fabric (right sides facing, the zipper teeth facing down)
Place the slider all to the end of the zipper (which is closed).
Place the lining right side down on the zipper.
Line up the edges and pin.
Again the zipper sandwich.
Stitch the top edge with a zipper foot.
Unfold the piece, right side of the outer fabric lies up.
Fold the outer fabric and line up the second upper edge and the zipper.
Turn and do the same with the lining.
Line up this zipper sandwich, pin and stitch this seam.
Unfold, so that each outer fabric and lining is lying on top of each other (right sides facing).
IMPORTANT: Un-zip the zipper halfway.
Pin the side seams.
The zipper teeth should be pinned toward the outer fabric.
Fold the zipper, teeth towards the outer fabric, zipper tape and seam allowances towards the lining.
Stitch the side seams, leaving a gap (~ 6cm) in one side of the lining.
Trim the seam allowances and cut the zipper ends.
Press open the seam allowance from the side seam.
Line up the side seam and the middle of the bottom.
Pin and close the corners in the outer fabric and the lining.
Turn right side outside and close the gap (by topstitching very close to the edge or by hand stitching using the invisible ladder stitch).
Put lining inside.
You´re done!
