Reversible Checkered Hat, 58cm Head Circumference
You will need:
20cm each of checked and striped cotton fabric (1.35m wide)
matching sewing thread
pencil
scissors
Instructions:
Cutting:
Cut out the hat pattern.
Tran all pieces onto the wrong side of the fabric, adding 1cm seam allowances, and cut them out.
You will need 2 brim pieces and 6 crown pieces each from the checked and striped fabrics.
Sewing:
For the crown (lining/outer fabric): Sew each of the 6 crown pieces together, right sides facing, according to the markings, and sew in a circle, leaving the seam allowance at the points un-sewn. Trim all seam allowances back to 5 mm, clipping the point allowances flat towards the seam.
For the brim: Sew the side seams of both the lining and outer fabric brims. Place the brims right sides together, aligning them precisely, and stitch all the way around the outer curve.
Trim the seam allowance back to 5 mm, turn the brim right side out, and topstitch 3 to 4 times in a circle, 1/4 presser foot width from the edge.
Sew the brim and the outer fabric crown piece together, right sides facing, edge to edge. Clip the seam allowance at the curves towards the seam.
Insert the lining crown piece into the hat, aligning it precisely, and topstitch close to the edge all the way around.
