DIY Hat Pattern. DIY sewing Beanie hat for adults / How to sew a hat / Sewing tutorial.
suitable for head circumference 54-57cm
finished circumference of the hat 53cm
Note: you can also enlarge or reduce the pattern to get additional sizes. The length can also be changed easily.
material
Jersey fabrics with elastane content
Sewing thread
Scissors, possibly a rotary cutter with a cutting mat
The pattern
The pattern for 1/4 of the hat is behind this link.
To check the size, 2 lines with a length of 10cm are drawn.
Print out this template, then trace it onto pattern paper or foil and “mirrore”. Then add the seam allowances of 7mm (foot width). The hem allowance is 3cm. Do not make any allowances on one side because the hat is cut in the fabric fold.
The finished pattern should then look like this:
The cut
Place the fabric in the fold. Place the pattern piece there and cut it to size.
Tip: You can cut the hat particularly well with a rotary cutter.
When unfolded it looks like this:
sewing
Note: Seam allowances are 7mm, which corresponds to the foot width.
First sew the seam between “roofs” numbers 1 and 2 and at 3 and 4. To do this, fold 1/4 of the hat towards the middle, right side of the fabric inside. When sewing, start at the top and sew like a dart.
Then fold the hat in half, right side inside, and spread the seam allowances of the cross seams apart. Stitch the seam, starting at the bottom edge and ending at the other end like a dart.
Now turn the hat to the right. Fold the hem allowance 3cm wide to the inside, while also spreading the seam allowances of the cross seam apart (so that nothing pinches). Then sew it in place with a zigzag stitch.
Tip: I like to use the 3-stitch zigzag, it is particularly elastic.
Already finished!
