How to Sew a Zip Pouch with a Flat Bottom

This project is a lined zippered pouch with a flat bottom.  They can be used for make up, pens and pencils, random bits of stationery, small things that get lost at the bottom of your bag, bobbins, dolls clothes, anything small! They make great gifts as well.

size and specialities:
bottom is 10cm broad
with a length of 22 cm it fits for long dpns
a height of 18 cm allows you to pack a half-letter sized page, or a full letter sized pattern which is folded in half

quilting fabric for outside: 0,35m
quilting fabric for inside: 0,25m
zipper 30cm long
sewing thread
pins 

Note: seam allowance is 1cm and is included in any given measurement 

Cutting
from outside and inside fabric, cut two pieces each in a size of 34 cm broad and 25 cm high
for the handle, cut a piece of 34 cm by 10cm from the outside fabric

Cover all sewing allowances. You can leave the long sides of the handle uncovered. 

prepare bag pieces
For the bottom of the bag, cut squares of 4x4cm at the bottom on both sides, from outside and inside fabric. Then cut triangles as the picture shows.

On the strip of outside fabric, fold the longer sides to the middle. Fold everything in half and topstitch the edges.

sewing in the zipper
Lay one piece of outside fabric onto the tabel, right side up. Lay the zipper onto the top edge, right side down. The upper edge of the zipper and fabric meet each other. Lay a piece of lining fabric on top, right side down. Sew on the upper edge. 

Unfold the fabric and fold the pieces with left aides together. Topstitch close to the fabric.

Sew the other side of the zipper the same way.

Open the zipper almost completely. Fold the fabric pieces in such a fashion that the outside aond the lining fabric each face with right sides together. Fold the zipper in half, so that the fold points into the outside fabric. Fold the handle in half and put it in between the outside fabric pieces, just a bit next to the zipper on the side where it opens. The handle is "tucked" into the fabric pieces. 

Sew the side seams. Be careful when sewing over the zipper. Sew the bottom seam on the outside fabric. Sew also the bottom seam on the lining fabric, but leave an opening for turning.

Now open up the fabric pieces a bit and fold them in such a manner that the edges of the cut squares meet. Also, the side and bottom seams meet. 

Finally, turn the bag inside out. Close the turning opening. Tuck the lining fabric into the bag and shape edges. Done!
