You can easily modify the pattern size, and pocket options.
We wish you a fun time sewing together some of these Sweet & Simple Totes!

Fabric
• 1/2 yard exterior fabric
• 1/2 yard lining fabric
• Straps and pocket pieces may be cut from these same materials or use additional prints from
your stash. In this case you may wish to consult the cutting dimensions outlined below.

*Sew with 5/8” seam allowance unless otherwise indicated

Tools
• Iron/ironing board
• Cutting mat
• Rotary cutter
• Ruler
• Pins
• Scissors
• Thread
• Turning Tool or Safety Pin

1. After selecting your fabric, press material.

2. Cut each piece to the below specifications:

• 2 Outside shell 14 ½” tall x 14” wide
• 2 Inside lining 14 ½” tall x 14” wide
• 2 Straps 18” long x 3” wide
• 1 Pocket 7” x 7”

 3. Fold and pin each strap lengthwise with the right sides facing together, using a 1/4” seam allowance. Trim threads. Using a turning tool or saftey pin, turn right side out, press flat and set aside.

4. Place the pocket wrong side facing up on ironing board. With the ruler fold and press top edge 1/2”. Sew with 1/4” seam allowance to give a finished look. Press and fold all edges 1/2” against wrong side.

5. Position the pocket on one of the lining pieces with the opening facing the top and pin in place. Sew with a 1/4” seam allowance down each side and across the bottom of the pocket.

You may wish to add an additional pocket on the outside. If so, cut an additional pocket piece and repeat steps 4 and 5 with one pocket added to the outside.

6. Pin the shell pieces right sides facing together and sew down the sides and completely across the bottom.

7. Pin the lining pieces right sides facing together and sew down the sides. Sew across bottom leaving an opening 3” in center.

8. Pin straps to right side of lining pieces making sure they are straight, even with each other, and hanging in the inside out lining.

9. With the shell right side out insert into the lining so that the right sides are facing together and straps are between them.

10. Align the side seams of the shell and lining. Pin around the opening of the bag. Sew along edge.

11. Gently pull the shell and straps through the opening in the bottom of the lining.

12. Fold and press the edges of the opening in the lining and sew closed.

13. Turn lining into the shell and press top edge flat. Sew around edge using 1/4” seam allowance.
