Today, get out your sewing machines, I'll reveal the secret to the diamond tote bag! I could make this bag with my eyes closed; I've made so many in every color, so I'll share the DIY below!
In this bag, you can slip your sports gear, your entire life, but above all, think beyond the end of your screen and imagine this bag made of denim, leather, and lined with a small print! The bag in the tutorial was made from a fantastic Ikea upholstery fabric!
For this DIY, you'll need:
4 50x50cm squares of fabric, 2 15x40cm rectangles,
scissors,
pins,
a ruler,
a sewing machine, thread and bobbin matching your fabric,
an iron.
To begin, lay out your 4 squares edge to edge and pin them together in pairs.
Then machine-stitch your two huge rectangles, remembering to open your seams with an iron for a neater finish.
Then pin your two huge rectangles across the entire height and then machine stitch.
This will form the opening of your bag.
Fold your large square in half, right sides together, then join the ends of your bag together to make a large rectangle (stop at the 15cm marks), then for the other two seams, join the raw edges that are on the same line, starting from the middle and stopping at the 15cm mark.
Run everything through the machine and once again open your seams well using your iron. You will have a square that looks like a paper hen, I grant you.
Make a small notch at the end of your seam at the opening of the bag, then fold using the iron, a first fold of a value of 1cm to clearly draw the opening of this bag.
Fold a second time, iron, and pin to finish your hems. Do the same on each corner with a raw edge! Run them through the machine!
Now let's move on to the previously sewn corners of your large square, and using a ruler measure 15cm from the point. Draw a perpendicular at this level.
Pin this line well so that your two layers of fabric are superimposed, pass it under the machine, make a straight stitch, as well as a zig zag stitch and finally cut 1cm from your seams.
Your bag is now ready to be turned right side out, remember to always iron everything well.
Now take the two strips that will serve as handles, fold 1cm all around your strip, and fold it in two.
Mark the fold well with your iron, and then make a rib stitch to secure everything! (You can of course pin if you haven't completely mastered your sewing machine yet)
Pin your strips to your hemmed corners, making sure to place the ends on both corners, side by side and not diagonally, otherwise you won't be able to put anything in your bag! And Ta-Da!
