■ 38cm x 38cm printed fabric
■ 120cm x 50cm plain fabric
■ 80cm x 40cm batting
■ 1 large button
Instructions
1. Cut two 38cm x 38cm pieces of batting. Cut one 38cm x 38cm piece of your printed fabric. Cut three 38cm x 38cm pieces of your plain fabric. Cut one 10cm x 5cm piece of your plain fabric.
2. At the bottom two corners of all of your large pieces of fabric and batting, cut out a 7cm square.
3. Make your button tab by first folding your small plain fabric piece in half wrong sides together along the long side. Open out then fold each side back into the centre crease and press again. Top-stitch close to the outer edge of your tab.
4. Make two 'sandwiches' by placing the right sides of your outer and lining fabric pieces together then lay the batting on top of the wrong side of your outer fabric and pin together. One of your fabric sandwiches will have two plain fabric pieces and one will have one printed and one plain.
5. Slot your button tab in between the two plain fabric pieces in your plain sandwich. The raw edges of the tab should line up with the raw edges of your fabric and it should be centred. You should have two fabric sandwiches, each with three layers. Stitch them both together along the top edges (those without the cutout squares) using a 1.5cm allowance. Press the seams open.
6. Place your two outer fabric pieces right sides together then separate out the lining pieces so these can be placed right sides together too. Pin all the way around your pieces then stitch together along the four sides, leaving out the cut out squares in each corner. Also leave a gap of 10cm in the bottom edge of your lining pieces.
7. Fold in your cut out square corners so the raw edges line up together in a straight line. Pin together then stitch with a 1.5cm seam allowance.
8. Turn your pouch right sides out through the gap you left in your lining. Hand stitch this gap shut.
9. Fold over the top of your pouch to decide how far down you want the button. Stitch your button in place on the front of your printed fabric to finish.
