Storage Fabric Basket Pattern (2 Sizes) + Tutorial

What You Will Need

• Pattern (DOWNLOAD PDF HERE)
• Paper scissors
• Fabric scissors or
• Rotary cutter and cutting mat
• Cotton fabric
• Lining fabric
• Pins/Magic Clips
• Matching thread

First, click on our download link and download our pattern. Then, cut out the printed pattern and glue the sheets together in the correct order: red line to red line. 

 To help you, we've created a pattern layout diagram that shows you how your pattern pieces should look later. You can choose between a large and a small storage basket. 

 Cut out the pattern along the black line. The 1 cm seam allowance is already included.

Now place your desired pattern piece on your fabric and secure it with pins.

Then you can cut out the pattern piece. Do the same with the lining fabric, remembering to include the notch for the turning opening.

First, we sew the outer storage container. Here, the long side is sewn together. To do this, fold the pattern piece in half, with the right side of the fabric facing inwards. Pin the open edge in place with pins or clips.

Next, sew this edge together at 1 cm and then iron the seam allowance open.

You can lay the piece flat so that the seam allowance is in the middle and a straight, longer edge is created underneath instead of two short ones.

You can now topstitch these at 1 cm and iron them open.

Now it's time for the corners. Pull the piece apart so that one long side is created. Secure this side and sew it together 1 cm from the edge. Repeat this on the other side. This creates the base.

The storage Basket is slowly taking shape :)

Now you can process the inner part, i.e., the lining, in the same way. Just remember to leave a turning opening when topstitching the long edge.

Now you have two almost finished baskets in front of you. You can turn the lining fabric to the right side.

Now, place the food basket right side up into the outer basket.

Pin the baskets together securely and sew the edge all the way around at 1 cm.

Now turn the basket right side out through your turning opening.

Then you can close them.

Now just the finishing touches: a quick iron and...

tadaaaaa... your self-sewn utensil is ready!
