Let's make a reusable grocery bag that looks like a cute strawberry when folded. Free Sewing Tutorial.
The body of the bag is made of a single layer of lightweight fabric, and a string is attached to one corner to allow storage of the shopping bag in the form of a pouch.
Materials Used
Outer - 30 Count Cotton Fabric
Pouch Fabric - 20 Count Cotton Fabric
Pouch Point Fabric - 11 Count Linen Fabric
String, String Stopper
Body fabric - 30 count plain cotton
Bag strap - 30 count plain cotton
Pouch body, strap opening - 20-count plain weave cotton
Drawstring, stopper
Let's make the strap first.
Fold the strap into quarters and iron it.
Sew both side seams.
Unfold the back and fold each side 1cm and iron.
Sew the ends to secure them in place.
Cut a square piece of fabric in half diagonally.
Fold the string passage in half so that the backs meet and iron.
Mark the center point.
Please also mark the center point on the longest straight section of the fabric that has been divided into triangles.
Lay out the triangle fabric with the right side facing out and place the string passage on top. Align it with the marked center point.
Secure with pins and sew.
Fold the string passage upwards and fold the seam towards the triangle fabric and iron well.
At one corner of the bottom of the body fabric
Secure the triangle fabric you just sewed.
Sew along the triangle edge.
Sew the remaining side in a direction symmetrical to the side you sewed first.
A 1cm-wide line is added to the body fabric opening.
Draw another line 2cm wide.
Mark the center point
Mark points 10cm on either side of this center point.
Attach the previously made bag strap to this point.
Please sew temporarily with a seam allowance of less than 0.7cm.
Place the right sides together. Make sure to align the edges of the triangle fabric sewn at the corners.
Sew the remaining three sides except the entrance.
Please prevent fraying by overlocking or zigzag stitching the edges.
Fold twice along the pre-ironed line at the opening.
The handle folds upward.
Please make a circle around each edge, close to the top and bottom edges.
Now, cut the string to a length that fits the height of the string passageway. Cut the string to a length that allows for a diagonal wrap around this point.
Pass the string through the string passage
Secure the stopper in place and you're done.
When not in use, roll up the bag.
Put it in the pouch
