PREPARING THE PIECES
1. Fuse the interfacing pieces to the back of the corresponding fabric pieces according to the manufacturer’s instructions, trimming any excess. If you’re only using one piece of fabric you may find it easier to fuse the interfacing to the back of the fabric prior to cutting out.
2. Tack the end of the zip closed.
3. To make the fabric divider section, take one of the card pocket pieces and fold it in half, right sides together, matching the long edges. (See Pic A.) Stitch down the left-hand short side.
4.Take another card pocket piece, fold it in half, right sides together, matching the long edges. Stitch down the left-hand short side and the bottom edge.
5. Repeat Step 4 for all remaining card pocket pieces, then clip the corners at the stitching.
6. Turn all the card pocket pieces right side out, press, then top-stitch the top folded edge and right-hand side seam.
7. Take one of the passport pocket pieces and fold it in half, right sides together, matching the short edges. Stitch down the left-hand short side as in Step 3, then follow steps 5 to 6.
8.Take the remaining passport pocket piece and fold it in half, right sides together, matching the short edges. Stitch down the left-hand short side and the bottom edge as in Step 4, then follow steps 5 to 6.
9. Take one of the main wallet divider pieces and place the pocket from Step 7 in the bottom-right corner, aligning the raw edges, and place the pocket from Step 8 1/8" above it.
10. Top-stitch the bottom seam of each pocket 1/8" from the edge, then baste the right-hand side seams in place. (See Pic B.)
11. Take the card pocket from Step 3 and align with the bottom-left corner of the main divider. Place the remaining pockets above, leaving 1/2" between each one. (See Pic C.)
12. Top-stitch the bottom seam of each pocket 1/8" from the edge, then baste the left-hand side seams in place. Set aside.
13.Take two inner pocket pieces, one reversed, and place right sides together. Stitch together along the short top, diagonal and short side seams. Clip the corners on the stitched sections then turn right sides out, press and top-stitch 1/8" from the seams. (See Pic D.)
14. Repeat Step 13 with the remaining inner pocket pieces.
15. Take the remaining main wallet divider piece and align the inner pockets to the bottom corners. Baste in place. (See Pic E.)
16. Take the outer pocket pieces and place right sides together. Stitch all the way around, leaving the bottom edge open. Clip the corners as per the inner pockets, then turn right sides out and top-stitch 1/8" from the seams.
17. Line up the centre of the outer pocket with the centre of the divider piece, aligning the bottom edges. Stitch the bottom seam in place.
18. Take the divider pieces from steps 12 and 17 and place right sides together. Stitch all the way around, leaving a 3-4” turning gap on the bottom edge. Clip all four corners. (See Pic F.)
19. Turn divider piece right sides out, press and top-stitch all the way around the divider.
21. Insert the screw stud through the hole on the left-hand side, with the rounded part on top.
22. Place the two closure strap pieces wrong sides together. Top-stitch all the way around the edge - note that you will need a longer stitch length than you would normally use on quilting cotton, here it’s 3.5mm. (See Pic H.)
23. Use the 2mm hole punch to make a hole 1/4" down and 1/2" in from the right-hand side of the closure strap, and another hole 1/2" directly below that. (See Pic H.)
24. Using the 5mm hole punch, make a hole 1/2" down and 3/4" in from the left-hand side of the closure strap, and another 1/2" down and 1 3/4" in. (See Pic H.)
25. Thread the bottom parts of the two rivets through the twin holes on the right-hand side of the main outer, and the top parts through the twin holes on the closure strap. Join them together so that the strap overhangs the edge of the outer piece and set the rivets. (See Pic I.) Set aside.
26. Take the upper back zip pocket piece and align it along the top
edge of the zipper so that the zipper stop is 1/2" in from one side and
the edge is 1/4" from the teeth. Use a little fabric glue to affix the
upper zip pocket piece in place, then top-stitch 1/8" from the edge.
(See Pic J.)
27. Take the clear card pocket piece and the
clear PVC. Apply a little fabric glue to the back of the cork fabric and
affix the PVC to the back of the card pocket piece. Top-stitch the top
edge 1/8" from the edge, and then top-stitch around the openings for the cards 1/8" from the edge. (See Pic K.)
28. Align the bottom and side seams the card pocket piece with the lower zip pocket piece and use a little fabric glue to stick down the side and bottom edges - this will be stitched in place later.
29. Align the lower zip pocket piece with the upper zip pocket piece on the other side of the zipper, again 1/4" from the zipper teeth. Glue then top-stitch in place. (See Pic L.)
30. Place the zip pocket pieces on the right-hand side of the main lining piece and glue in place all the way around. Top-stitch the upper zipper pocket piece in place 1/8" from the edge (the rest will be stitched down later). (See Pic M.)
31. Align one of the passport pocket pieces with the bottom left-hand corner of the lining piece and glue the left-hand and bottom edges in place. Place the remaining passport pocket piece 1/8" above the lower pocket, again gluing the bottom and side edges in place. Top-stitch the bottom edge of the upper pocket 1/8" from the edge. (See Pic N.)
32. Place the outer and lining pieces wrong sides together and top-stitch all the way around 1/8" from the edge to catch In all the glued seams in the previous steps. Trim any overhanging zipper tape.
33. To create the wallet, place the fabric divider section in the centre of the lining for the outer section. Use a marking tool to mark a line down the centre of the divider, then top-stitch in place along this line. (See Pic O.)
