Fold Over Clutch DIY - Cotton + Leather

Fold Over Clutch DIY - Cotton + Leather

I am a huge fan of clutches! Especially the big fold over ones that have been everywhere lately. I recently thrifted some textured faux leather fabric that I knew would be perfect for a handbag. I used it alongside some other thrifted materials to create this perfect fold over clutch. Here's how...

Fold Over Clutch DIY - Cotton + Leather

1. Supplies: Leather or faux leather fabric; Cotton Fabric; Fusible interfacing; Shank button; Scissors; Needles; Thread; Sewing machine; Paper, pencil and ruler.

2. Make a pattern for you clutch on paper. I made mine 11 inches wide, 13 inches long, and a fold line 4 1/2 inches down from the top.

3. Cut 1 leather, 1 outer cotton fabric, 2 lining fabrics, and 1 piece of interfacing using your pattern.

4. Iron your interfacing to the wrong side of your outer cotton fabric.

5. With right sides together, sew your outer fabric at 1/2 inch seam allowance. Do the same for your lining pieces. Cut off excess seam allowance.

6. Flip your outer piece right side out. Fold and press 1/2 down from the top edge of both your inner and outer bag.

7. Place your lining bag into the outer bag and pin in place. Decide which way you want your pouch to fold over, and then pin a piece of string, ribbon, or cord in place to the top. This will be used at a part of the closure.

8. Sew a shank button to the front of your clutch. Make sure to place it so the cord from step 7 can wrap around a few times.
