Makeup Brush Roll Bag Tutorial

Makeup Brush Roll Bag Tutorial

How to Sew a Makeup Brush Roll-Up. DIY Roll-up Makeup Brush Case. DIY Makeup Brush Holder - For Travel and Organization.

I’ll show you a photo of the project I made tonight. It took about 20 minutes from start to finish. I was surprised and pleased at how quickly it went together. I might even make a few more to give as gifts.

I used some leftover scraps of vinyl-covered cotton fabrics. The edges won’t fray so it isn’t necessary to turn under the edges. To prevent creating holes with pins, try painter’s-type tape to hold the pieces in place. You can stitch right over the tape and then easily remove it without leaving any residue. (You can even press over the tape if you’re using it on cotton fabric.) For best results, use vinyl-covered cotton fabric, your sewing machine’s walking foot, polyester thread, and Microtex needles.

You can customize the holder to accommodate the sizes of the brushes (or pens, pencils, …even art or sewing/quilting supplies). I sewed a ribbon to one side by stitching just between the tape marks shown in the photo above. I added a band of fabric to the opposite side, which I  stitched in place with a variety of “pocket” sections to hold the brushes.

To finish, fold the entire piece in half and stitch all the way around the edges through both thicknesses. Insert the brushes, roll up, and tie with a loose knot or bow.

 Supplies :
Fabric: Vinyl-covered cotton -
     8” x 20” piece for outside
     4” x 9” piece for pocket
Ribbon: 16” long piece of 3/4” wide
Painter’s-type masking tape
Sewing machine with walking foot
Microtex needle, No. 12
Polyester thread

 Preparation:
1. Attach the walking foot, Microtex needle and polyester thread (both top and bobbin).

Construction:
1. Turn one long edge of the picket piece to the wrong side and stitch 1/4" from the fold.

2. With the right sides of both fabrics facing up, and the folded edge of the pocket on top, position the pocket piece onto the outside piece. The pocket piece is about 1/2" from the edge of the outside piece on both the bottom and right-hand edges. Use the painter’s-type masking tape to hold the pocket in place. The tape can be easily removed after stitching through it.

3. Edge-stitch the pocket to the outside piece along the sides and bottom edge. Do not stitch across the top folded edge.

4. To make the sections for the brushes, make several rows of stitches from the top folded edge of the pocket to the bottom edge. Customize the width of the sections to accommodate the size of the brushes. *Helpful Hint: the painter’s tape is helpful for keeping the stitching lines straight.

5. Center the piece of ribbon onto the left-hand side of the out piece, centering it both horizontally and vertically. Secure with tape and then stitch between the pieces of tape (approximately 4”).

6. With the wrong side of the outer fabric piece together, fold it in half and edge-stitch all the way around, through both thicknesses.

7. Insert the make-up brushes. Roll up and bag and tie the ribbon with a loose knot or bow.
