MATERIALS
◆ 55cm Yuma Lemons Mist canvas
◆ FQ Turmeric Pure Elements
◆ FQ Maldives Pure Elements
◆ 60cm Hay Floral Elements for lining
◆ 1m Vlieseline H630 fusible wadding
◆ 1m Vlieseline Style-Vil foam interfacing
◆ blue perle cotton #8
◆ co-ordinating thread

 CUTTING
From canvas, cut:
25x48cm rectangle for front mid-section
55x48cm rectangle for back
5.5x48cm strip
10x55cm strip for handles

From solids, cut:
14 4cm squares in yellow
14 4cm squares in blue

From lining, cut:
2 55x48cm rectangles

From the H630, cut:
2 55cm wide x 48cm long pieces

 PREPARATION
1. To make the handles, fold the strip intended for the handles in half lengthways and iron to create a central crease. Fold the two long raw edges towards the centre crease and press again. Fold to enclose the creases. (See Pic A.)

 2. Top-stitch along both long sides to close the handle and to decorate. (See Pic B.) Cut a piece 15cm long from one end of the handle.

3. Sew the squares together with alternating colours. First a  strip of seven squares and then a second row, alternating the colours. (See Pic C.)  Repeat for the bottom strip.

ASSEMBLY
4.  For the front, take the canvas mid-section panel and two square  blocks and attach a square block to the top and bottom of the canvas. Attach the remaining canvas strip on the very bottom of the front panel, underneath the lower squares to form the base when it is boxed.

5. Fuse the wadding to the back of both the front pieced panel and the whole back canvas. Top-stitch along the canvas about 0.5cm under each seam and quilt the patched sections with your favourite pattern, such as wavy random lines. (See Pic D.)

6. Lay each onto a slightly larger piece of Style-Vil foam interfacing. Attach with a narrow basting stitch (see Pic E) and then trim the excess foam away.

 7. Attach the smaller part of the handle as a loop in the centre top of one of the panels. (See Pic F.) This will become the front of the bag.

8. Attach the remainder to the centre of the back panel, also as a loop. This longer loop goes through the smaller one at the front and is then used to hang the bag.

9. With the right sides together, sew the front and the back panels on the sides and base.

10. Cut a 4.5cm square from each of the lower corners. (See Pic G.)  and pinch the seams together. Sew right across to box the base.

11. Repeat for the two pieces of lining (including the corner boxing)  but this time, leave a turning gap in the base.

12. With the bag outer the right way out and the lining inside out, pull the lining on over the outer, keeping the hanging loops tucked between the lining and the outer. Match the side seams up and sew right around the top.

13. Turn out through the turning gap in the lining base and close the gap. stuff the lining down into the bag and top-stitch right around the top edge.

14. Sew the little faux leather label onto the front, in the centre, just under the top patches using the blue thread to finish.
