Materials Needed

Outer fabric: Cotton 20s (plain or patterned)
    Lining fabric: Cotton 20s
    Piping cord (for drawstring channels)
Optional: Decorative wooden beads for drawstring ends

  Mark the lining (wrong side):
From each corner, measure 5 cm inward. From that point, measure another 1.5 cm inward. Mark these spots – they will be the drawstring holes.

Mark a 6 cm wide opening in the center of the lining – this will be the turning hole.

Keep the center position and length accurate so the turning hole closes neatly later without extra stitching.

Sewing the main body

Place outer fabric and lining right sides together.
Sew around the entire perimeter, leaving unsewn:
The two 1.5 cm drawstring holes (on opposite sides)
The 6 cm center turning hole

Trim the seam allowances at all four corners diagonally to reduce bulk.

Turn the bag right side out through the 6 cm opening. Press flat, carefully shaping the edges.

Creating the drawstring channels

On the pressed bag, draw lines connecting the two unsewn drawstring holes on each side.

Sew along these lines to form two separate drawstring channels.

You should now see parallel stitching lines that create the channels.

Forming the side wings

Fold the bag in half with linings together (so outer fabric is on the outside). Pin to secure.

On each side, draw a vertical line 2 cm inward from the edge.

Important: Draw this line only up to the lower stitching line of the drawstring channel (do not go beyond it).

    Sew along these marked lines.

Press the “wings” – open the sewn sections and press them flat to each side.

Shaping the bottom

Turn the bag inside out so the lining is visible.

Flatten one bottom corner to form a triangle. Mark a point 2.5 cm from the tip inward along the fold.

Draw a vertical line through this point (perpendicular to the seam) and sew along it.

Repeat for the other bottom corner.

Turn the bag right side out again – the bottom should now have clean boxed corners.

Adding the drawstrings

Thread a cord through each drawstring channel (using the small holes left earlier).

Cut the cords to your desired length.

Optional: Thread a wooden bead onto each end and tie a knot to secure.
