Simple Shoulder Bag Tutorial

Simple Shoulder Bag Tutorial

Making a bag with simple materials and simple patterns. It is a bag with a handle that is short but long enough to be carried on the shoulder.  Let's make it together.

Simple Shoulder Bag Tutorial

(Material Introduction)

Outer fabric, lining, label

Isn't it too simple?

If you use the same fabric for the lining and outer fabric, you only need one type of fabric.

If the fabric is thin, you can attach lining or adhesive cotton to the outer fabric, but the goal is to make DIY as simple as possible~
I worked without adding anything. Please adjust as needed. Haha.

The outer fabric and lining are    106cm x 40cm . Please prepare

If you make the length longer and the width wider, the size of the bag _

Try making one in the size I'm showing you, and then try making it with slightly different sizes~

DOWNLOAD PDF PATTERN HERE

Pattern? It's not really necessary, but I'll draw it for your convenience.

Please prepare a piece of paper measuring 16cm wide x 22cm long.

I'll draw a diagonal line 10cm from one corner, and then draw a guide line 2cm down to the outside.

Please draw a curve by naturally connecting the 10cm dot and the 2cm descending line.

The pattern is completed with only one corner rounded.

It doesn't really matter if you make it a little more or less convex.

Prepare a piece of fabric measuring 106cm x 40cm and fold it once lengthwise.

I'll fold it horizontally once more.

Place the pattern on the vertical lines and cut it out.
Cut the lower part of the horizontal line  to 5cm x 4cm
The width of the bottom is determined by the size you cut it to.

You can leave the center as is, but I reduced it by about 1.5cm.

Just like the lining, cut out the pattern and corners of the outer fabric.

I will also cut the center of the outer fabric by 1.5cm.

I'll make an inner pocket using the cut out part of the lining.

I put a wick tape on the entrance of the pocket.

It would be good to reinforce the areas where your hands often move with duct tape.

I'll cut the perimeter into a square, turn it over, shape it, and iron it.

I'll sew the pocket centered 2cm from the corner of the lining

Next, we will place the outer surface of the outer fabric and the inner surface of the pocket together and sew the side of the handle with a 1cm seam allowance.

For the curved part, sew slowly while turning it with small amount of sweat.

It's better if the inside is sewn a little smaller, so when you sew the inside of the handle, let the fabric dry slightly while sewing.

If you make the lining and outer fabric the same size, the lining may show through to the outer fabric.

It would be good to cut the lining about 2mm smaller.

I'll put scissors in the curved part of the seam.

I'll flip it over through the narrow passage in the handle.

The passageway isn't wide, so be careful to turn it over gently. Be careful not to stretch the fabric!

I'll flip it over, shape it, and iron it.

Be careful to iron the outer fabric so that the lining is not visible.
I'll place the outer fabrics together, and the linings together, with the outer sides touching.

I would like to place the insert label 3cm away from the connection point (entrance side) of the outer and inner fabrics.

Always change the position of the label according to your personal preference.

I'll put the label on and sew it in the center with a 1cm seam allowance.

Leave a window hole on the lining side.

The part you are currently cutting is not the side, but the front and back center lines.

I will lower the center by 2mm on both sides to prevent the seam from rising.

Next, I will put a 1cm seam allowance on the floor and iron it with a seam allowance.

After pressing the center of the bottom, I will press the corners and press them in with a 1cm gap.

This part corresponds to the part cut out to 5cm x 4cm when drawing the design.

After sewing the bottom center of the lining with a 1cm seam allowance, iron it with a flat iron.

Fold the corner and staple it.

It is easier to fold the lining bottom and sew it together with the outer fabric bottom instead of sewing it separately.

I'll sew the bottom of the lining and the bottom of the outer fabric together.

If you hold it like this, the lining won't come off~

I'll turn it over and finish it by making a round hole or by cutting it short.
